Drone stuck in a tree? Drone retrieval

A drone caught high in a tree is hard to reach and easy to break. Our qualified climbers go up on ropes, free it by hand and lower it safely to the ground, without cutting branches unless we have to.

Drone retrieval in short

Clearcut recovers drones caught in trees across Dorset, Hampshire and south Wiltshire. A qualified climber goes up on ropes, frees the drone by hand, bags it and lowers it to the ground crew, so it doesn't drop through the branches. We cut nothing unless we have to, and if a branch must come off we tell you first. The same service covers kites, balls, model aircraft and anything else stuck high in a tree.

Before we arrive

  1. 1

    Don't climb the tree

Branches high in a crown can't take a person's weight, and falls from trees are serious.

  2. 2

Don't shake it or throw things

It can knock the drone further in, or bring it down onto someone.

  3. 3

Switch it off if you can

Stop the motors from the controller, and note where it went in.

  4. 4

    Send us a photo

A picture of the tree and roughly where the drone is helps us bring the right kit.

How we get it down

Most drones are recovered in under an hour, with nothing cut.

Our climber sets a rope high in the tree, climbs to the drone and frees it from the twigs by hand, checking the rotors and arms aren't caught.

The drone goes into a bag on the climber's harness, or is lowered on a separate line to the ground team, so it never drops through the branches.

If the drone is out on thin branches that won't take a climber, we use a pole from a strong branch nearby, or a platform where the ground allows. A branch is only cut if there is no other way, and only with your agreement.

Drone retrieval questions

Anything not covered here? Ask us and we'll give you a straight answer.

Ask us a question

How much does drone retrieval cost?
It depends on the height, the tree and the access, so we give you a price before we start. Send us a photo of the tree and we'll tell you.
Can you get a drone out of a very tall tree?
Usually, yes. Our climbers work at height every day, and we can use a platform where the ground allows.
Will you cut the tree?
Only if there is no other way, and only with your agreement. Most drones are freed by hand.
Is the tree on someone else's land a problem?
We need the landowner's permission to climb their tree. We can help you ask.
Do you also rescue cats?
Yes. See our cat rescue page.

Do we cover you?

Max came out on a very wet day and within 2 hours of initially calling him. Gave his expert advice and opinion, and although couldn’t do the job, due to the tree being on council highway, Max gave me the contact of the councils approved contractor to carry out a pollard. I wouldn’t hesitate in using Max for any future work at my property.
