Clearcut covers Dorchester and the DT1 and DT2 postcodes, including Poundbury, Fordington, Charminster, Puddletown, Broadmayne and the villages of the Frome valley. Dorchester's tree-lined Walks follow the line of its old town walls, the Frome water meadows run along its northern edge, and chalk downland surrounds it. Tree work is regulated by Dorset Council, based in the town; we handle TPO and conservation area applications.
Dorchester's oldest trees line the Walks around the town centre, and many of its streets are in a conservation area.
In the historic centre and Fordington, trees in the conservation area need six weeks' written notice to Dorset Council before work, and many are covered by TPOs. We check and handle the paperwork.
Along the Frome and in the water meadows, willows and alders grow big on wet ground and suit regular reduction or pollarding.
Poundbury has younger street and garden trees planted in a planned layout. Formative pruning now saves bigger problems later, and many trees are covered by planning conditions, which we check before any work.
On the surrounding chalk, beech and ash grow on thin soils, and ash dieback has left many roadside ash trees in decline.
