Homeowners
A big tree near the house, a lean that's getting worse, fungus at the base, or just peace of mind before winter.
A qualified arborist checks your trees from root to crown, tells you what condition they're in and what, if anything, they need, and puts it in writing.

A tree inspection is a visual check of a tree's health and safety by a qualified arborist. We look at the roots and base, the stem and the crown for decay, fungus, cracks, deadwood, poor unions, leaning and root damage, sound the stem with a mallet, and note the tree's surroundings: what it could hit if it failed. You get a clear written report with each tree's condition, the risk, the work recommended and how urgent it is.
What the tree would hit if it failed: houses, roads, paths, play areas, cars and cables.
Fungal brackets, root damage, lifting soil, cavities and decay at the base.
Sounded with a mallet for hollows, checked for cracks, splits, wounds and lean.
Deadwood, hanging branches, weak forks, dieback and the balance of the crown.
Each tree's condition, the risk, the work it needs and how soon, in plain English.

Regular inspections show you have taken reasonable care of trees on your property, and many insurers ask for them.
Inspections on a cycle, with records kept, for trees near paths, car parks, roads and buildings.
If you own a tree, you are responsible for it being reasonably safe.
The law expects tree owners to take reasonable care that their trees don't harm people or property. For most homeowners that means getting a tree checked if something looks wrong; for landlords, businesses, schools and estates it usually means regular inspections and records.
A written inspection report shows you have taken that care, and gives you a clear list of what needs doing and when.
