Tree removal in short

Clearcut removes trees of every size across Dorset, Hampshire and parts of Wiltshire. Most garden trees are taken down in sections by a climber on ropes, because there isn't room to fell them. Where there is space, the tree is felled in one piece. Very large or awkward trees can be removed with a crane. The stump is then ground out with our tracked grinder, usually on the same day.

Methods
Sectional dismantling, straight felling or crane-assisted removal
Stump
Ground out 150 to 300 mm below ground with a tracked grinder
Waste
Brash chipped and removed. Timber taken away or left as logs
Permission
TPO and conservation area checks on every job. We apply for you
Price
Mid-range, fixed written quote after a free visit

Which method is right for your tree?

The space around the tree decides how it comes down.

If the tree is near a house, a fence, a road or cables, it is dismantled: a qualified climber takes it down from the top, and heavy pieces are lowered on ropes to the ground crew. This is how most trees in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch gardens are removed.

If there is open ground at least as long as the tree is tall, it can be felled in one piece, which is quicker and usually cheaper.

If the tree hangs over a building or there is nowhere safe to lower pieces, sections can be lifted out with a crane.

On the free visit we tell you which method your tree needs and why, and check whether it is protected.

What does tree removal cost?

The price depends on the tree and its surroundings, so we quote after a free visit.

We are mid-range on price: not the cheapest, not the dearest. You pay for qualified climbers, proper insurance and a clean site, and the price we quote is the price you pay.

What affects the price

  • The size and species of the tree
  • How close it is to buildings, boundaries and cables
  • Whether it can be felled or needs dismantling or a crane
  • Access for the chipper and the stump grinder
  • Whether you keep the timber and want the stump ground out

Tree removal questions

Anything not covered here? Ask us and we'll give you a straight answer.

Ask us a question

How much does it cost to remove a tree?
It depends on the tree's size, species and position, the access and whether the stump is ground out. We give a fixed written price on a free visit, and the price quoted is the price you pay. See how much does tree removal cost?
Can you remove the tree and the stump on the same day?
Usually, yes. The stump is ground out once the tree is down and cleared.
Do I need permission to remove a tree?
Only if it has a Tree Preservation Order or is in a conservation area. We check every tree and make the application if needed.
Can you remove a tree that is very close to my house?
Yes. Trees near buildings are dismantled in sections with every heavy piece lowered on ropes, or lifted out with a crane.
What happens to the wood?
Brash is chipped and taken away. Timber is removed, or cut into logs and left for you if you want firewood.
How long does it take?
A small garden tree is often done in a few hours. A large tree near a house can take a full day or more. We give you a time on the quote.

Max came out on a very wet day and within 2 hours of initially calling him. Gave his expert advice and opinion, and although couldn’t do the job, due to the tree being on council highway, Max gave me the contact of the councils approved contractor to carry out a pollard. I wouldn’t hesitate in using Max for any future work at my property.
